NEWMARKET, ON – Dryden Municipal Telephone System (DMTS) has joined the Ontario Telecommunications Association as its twenty-second member.
Established in 1916, DMTS is a public utility wholly owned by the City of Dryden. With network facilities across northwestern Ontario, the company recently partnered with several First Nations and telecom groups to support wireless services across the province.
“DMTS has been undergoing a transition from a small municipal telephone provider to a regional provider” said general manager Peter Gillis, in the announcement. “As part of a `retain and grow’ direction given by city council, the company has been looking at every aspect of its operations and looks to the OTA to provide regulatory and operational support as the company manages its growth plans. In facing the challenges in front of the company, DMTS recognizes the value of working with a peer group to discover new and better ways of achieving company goals.”
The OTA represents the regulatory and commercial interests of small incumbent local exchange carriers (SILECs) which together serve over 100,000 access lines, and provide a range of telephone, Internet, cellular and digital television services across rural Ontario.
“We are very pleased to welcome DMTS into the OTA as our latest member”, said executive director Jonathan Holmes. “The addition of DMTS to the Association will only add to our strength and effectiveness as we represent the interests of small incumbent local exchange carriers.”
