TORONTO – Setanta Sports will launch an HD version of its international sports channel next month.
Starting August 1st, Setanta Sports HD will carry over 500 live and “near live” events in high definition starting with Community Shield between defending FA Cup and Barclays Premier League champions Chelsea and perennial league champion contenders Manchester United on August 8.
“The HD format significantly enhances the viewing experience for all sports. This is especially true for the free-flowing style of play in top-level soccer and rugby union matches”, said Errol Hinds, GM for Setanta Sports Canada, in the announcement. “With the launch of Setanta Sports HD, fans will have access to the most high definition soccer and rugby coverage available on any channel in Canada.”
A ten-day free preview starting August 13 will include the opening two weekends of the Barclays Premier League. A network spokesperson told Cartt.ca that a final list of distributors offering the channel will not be made available until closer to the launch.
