ACTRA accepts new ads pact

TORONTO – ACTRA has voted “yes” to a new three year agreement for the National Commercial Agreement (NCA), ratifying the decision by 96.6%.

The NCA, negotiated between ACTRA and the associations that represent Canada’s advertising industry (ICA/ACA), is the industry standard collective agreement that governs the production of English-language commercials in Canada.

"This result represents overwhelming membership support for the terms of our new National Commercial Agreement which is the result of the hard work and dedication of the members who participated on our NCA 2008 negotiating committee, our elected leadership and staff across Canada who daily guide our union to success," said Stephen Waddell, ACTRA national executive director.

Key elements of the new NCA include increased rates and new accident-on-set insurance, expanded new media opportunities and shorter work days. The new terms will come into effect on December 1.

ACTRA members have yet to vote on the terms of the new Local and Regional Addendum, which governs local made-in /played-in commercial production outside of Toronto and Montreal.
