Vancouver’s AM 650 will be place for Russians to turn to during Olympics

VANCOUVER – As Vancouver prepares to welcome the world in 15 days, Astral Media Radio’s AM 650 is preparing to welcome Russia’s Autoradio to its airwaves. From February 12 to 28, Russia’s leading music station, Autoradio, will be broadcasting live from Vancouver’s “all-time favourites” AM 650.

“With a large contingent of Russian athletes here in the month of February as well as more than 60,000 Russian-Canadian residents living in Vancouver, this unique exchange program will give these individuals the opportunity to enjoy broadcasts in their native language,” reads the release. At the same time, listeners in Russia will be exposed to Vancouver’s vibrant multi-ethnic cultural landscape and be offered a taste of what’s to come in when Sochi hosts the Winter Games in 2014.

“This is a great opportunity to show our renowned Canadian hospitality,” said Brad Phillips, vice-president and general manager of Astral Media Radio, in the release. “We are excited to be able to do this for the Russian community in Vancouver and also share the best of Vancouver with new listeners in Russia.”

“Autoradio is excited to be partnering with AM 650 for live, simultaneous broadcasts in Vancouver and Russia during the month of February. We will be broadcasting live Russian music and radio shows, including our popular morning show ‘Murzilki International’,” added Yuri Kostin, president of Prof Media Broadcasting Corporation, owner of Autoradio.

Autoradio and its radio personalities will broadcast from the Russian House “Sochi 2014” at Science World. The shows will air most days from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. in Vancouver, and will continue to broadcast live outside of those times in Russia.

Autoradio will also air Canadian artists during these broadcast times, which allows listeners in Russia to enjoy music from Canadian artists. On the days when the Vancouver Giants are playing, Autoradio programming will begin after the AM 650 hockey broadcasts.
