HALIFAX – Bell Aliant was feted for its support of the IWK Health Centre Wednesday after its donations to the hospital surpassed $1.8 million to date.
The company funded a patient support program known as ‘Keeping Families Connected’ which provides long distance calling cards to families free of charge, allowing them to stay in touch with family and friends. It also provides Internet and wireless connectivity to support the elements of the Child Life Interactive Computers for Kids (CLICK) program, including a virtual classroom where patients can interact with their teachers and classmates in real time using a laptop and web camera.
“We are proud to join the other generous organizations that have pledged their support to the IWK Health Centre and achieved this important milestone,” said president and CEO Karen Sheriff, in a statement. “Through our employee and retiree volunteer efforts and, using our technology to help children stay connected to their families, friends and schools, we have shared many great experiences with the hospital. This recognition today is a celebration of our valued relationship built on our shared desire to serve and strengthen our communities.”
