CTV, Discovery Communications expand Discovery Canada agreement

TORONTO – CTV and Discovery Communications Inc. (DCI) have extended their Discovery Canada joint venture to include the English-language broadcast rights in Canada for programming from U.S. networks Discovery Channel, Discovery Science, Discovery Health, Discovery HD Theatre and Investigation Discovery.

Under the new multi-year agreement, Discovery Canada will utilize Discovery-branded content on additional platforms such as the Internet, video on demand and mobile.  In addition, CTV will have the English-language rights to launch new Discovery branded channels in Canada (excluding TLC and Military Channel, and the OWN and Hub joint ventures).

“Having just celebrated 15 groundbreaking years, this is a wonderful time to be charting the course for Discovery Channel Canada’s next decade,” said Susanne Boyce, president of creative, content and channels for CTV Inc., in the announcement. “I couldn’t be more thrilled by this expanded and renewed deal with our DCI partners that will allow us to keep growing, evolving, and continue to set the bar for factual entertainment in Canada.”
