MTS to provide VoIP to New Westminster

WINNIPEG – MTS Allstream has won a contract with the City of New Westminster, B.C. and the New Westminster Police Service, to provide upgrades to their voice and data infrastructure in order to implement voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) telephony.

"MTS Allstream is proud to deliver new technology and unified communications services to these important customers in New Westminster," said Dean Prevost, president of enterprise solutions for MTS, in the press release. "Our VoIP telephony solution securely runs voice and data over a single network infrastructure, and is designed to help organizations of all sizes and in all sectors improve the way they do business."

"This new technology will mean significant cost savings in access line costs, as well as remote location extension costs over the next few years," said Alvin Chok, manager of information technology for the City of New Westminster. "It will also provide the ability to integrate all remote sites at City Hall, reducing local access charges and multiple site telephony upgrades – meaning that our remote sites will have the same phone features as City Hall through the VoIP technology."
