Trio of telecom co-ops buy Mitchell-Seaforth Cable TV

DUBLIN, Ont. – According to the community newspaper the Mitchell Advocate, rural telecom co-operatives Hay Communications, Quadro Communications and Tuckersmith Communications have gotten together to purchase the Mitchell-Seaforth Cable TV companies from the Ward family.

The cable company had operated a few different brands in southwestern Ontario: Grand Bend Cable TV, Mitchell-Seaforth Cable, and Ward Cable but had consolidated under the Ezlink name.

No financial terms were disclosed and we’d post a link to the story but while we have seen a picture of the hard copy of the newspaper report, there doesn’t seem to be a link to the piece on the newspaper’s web site.

The story says the cablecos’ GM, Steve Ward, will remain and no immediate changes are planned. The systems serve under 5,000 customers.

As reported by Cartt.ca last week, the co-ops, which are based in the same region, are part of a group of independent telcos which recently launched an IPTV service, but this acquisition will take them into the coaxial world.
