Rogers cuts 10 from broadcasting operations

TORONTO – Rogers Broadcasting announced a total of 10 people have been cut from its Queen Street and Lakeshore operations.

In an e-mail to staff from Maureen Rogers, vice-president and general manager, Citytv Toronto; Kelly Colasanti, vice-president, operations; and Dawn Morden, executive director on-air creative, which found its way into the Cartt.ca inbox late Thursday, the executives blamed the economy for the cutbacks.

“In light of the current economic climate, we have been analyzing how to conduct our business and subsequently we need to implement ways to adapt to the rapidly changing market conditions,” reads the e-mail. “As a result, we have had to make tough decisions that impact our employees.”

Those who have lost their jobs are: newswriter John Ignatowicz, news producer Derek Miller, web producer Dan Haber, BT unit assistant Michelle Beilhartz, CityNews promo writer/producer Jennifer Williams, and EFP editor Paul March – EFP Editor Sr.

And, due to “the introduction of advanced technology at the new building (on Dundas),” the company also notified four camera operators their positions will be eliminated over the next few months. They are Greg Valentyn, Jonathan Demers, Ian Kenmir, and Dave Lawson.

While some of these employees have been with us longer than others, all have contributed tremendously to the success of Citytv. We would like to thank them for their dedication over the years and wish them well in their future personal and professional endeavours,” concluded the e-mail.
