Most U.S. cablecos will roll out DOCSIS 3.0 by 2013, says report

SILVER SPRING, MD – Cable companies that have begun to deploy new technology enabling them to offer faster Internet speeds to customers, should be able to provide enhanced broadband service to nearly all of their customers within the next five years, predicts a new forecast by market research provider Pike and Fischer.

The report, called ‘DOCSIS 3.0 Deployment Forecast’, says that consumer demand for more Internet bandwidth will spur cable companies to deploy newer versions of the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS), such as 3.0, which can increase the Internet speed delivered to cable modem users to as much as 100 megabits per second.

DOCSIS 3.0 will also help cable operators better manage their networks, cut operational costs and significantly increase their high-speed Internet revenue, the report said.  Some of the largest U.S. cable operators, such as Comcast and Cox Communications, will cover 100% of their territories with DOCSIS 3.0 capabilities by the end of next year, with others will reaching that mark by the end of 2013, the report continued.
