BBM S1 report includes first PPM data


TORONTO – BBM has released its top-line radio statistics for January 5 through March 1, 2009, including the first report using data from portable people meters (PPM) from the Montreal market. 

Highlights from Montreal, which reviewed data from December 1 through March 1, 2009, showed that Astral Media-owned news talk station CJAD dominated the Anglo market with a 25.6% share. They were followed by CJFM FM (Astral’s Virgin station), Corus’ “lite” rock focused CFQR FM and CBC Radio One (CBME FM) at 16%, 14% and 12.4%, respectively.

The leaders in Montreal’s Franco markets were CFGL FM with a 15.5% share, CITE FM with a 13.2% share, followed by CHMP FM with a 12% share.

In the Toronto market, Rogers’ CHFI increased its share from 8.4% in S4 to 10.0% for the January through March time period. This was followed by CBC Radio One (CBLA FM) at 8.9% which was down slightly from 9.4%, and CTV’s CHUM FM which held steady at 8.8% from S4.

CBC Radio One (CBR) continued to lead the Calgary market with a 10.8% share, which was the same as its S4 share. Corus’ news talk CHQR and Astral’s Top 40 CIBK FM split second place with a 9.1% share each, followed by Rogers’ contemporary CHFM FM at 8.2%, which was up from 7.1% in S4.

The Vancouver market was also led by CBC Radio One (CBU) with 11.0%, up from 9.9% in S4, followed by Corus’ news talk CKNW at 10.1%, who saw its share drop this period from 12.4%. CTV’s contemporary CHQM FM rounded out the top three with an 8.8% share, up from its 7.6% in S4.
