Clearwire launches 4G ‘Innovation Network’

KIRKLAND, WA – American Internet service provider Clearwire is launching a WiMAX ‘Innovation Network’ in Silicon Valley, CA this summer.

The network will initially cover about 20 square miles in Silicon Valley and bring 4G wireless service to the campuses of various technology companies including early participants Google Inc. and the Intel Corporation.

Designed to accelerate the development of 4G applications and devices, a developer-focused WiMAX beta network will be provided free of charge to a limited number of qualified developers for one year.

"The WiMAX Innovation Network will provide some of the world’s most talented developers with a live test environment in which to build broadband services specifically designed for the 4G mobile Internet experience," said Scott Richardson, Clearwire’s chief strategy officer, in the press release. "Our goals have always been to change the way people access the Internet and provide new opportunities for mobile applications. Providing early access to an eager pool of developers while we continue to roll out 4G services nationally makes perfect sense."

Clearwire also introduced the ‘Clear Spot’, an accessory that creates a portable Wi-Fi hotspot for the CLEAR 4G WiMAX service.
