TORONTO – The Canadian Television Fund (CTF) will solicit written submissions and conduct focus groups as part of its industry consultation process to engage stakeholders in the creation of the new Canada Media Fund (CMF) program.
At a virtual town hall scheduled for August 6, 2009, the CTF will present briefing papers detailing the key policy issues, the organization said in a press release Friday. Stakeholders will be asked to provide written submissions with their input, and will also be able to review and comment on all of the input received.
Following the written submission process, the CTF said that it will host provincial, territorial, and national focus groups in English, French, and Aboriginal languages (based on the market), for participants to voice their ideas, questions, and concerns.
"The priority (of the consultation process) is to ensure that production and broadcast cycles are not destabilized as the CMF program is developed and implemented," said CTF president and CEO Valerie Creighton, in the announcement. "The result of the industry consultation will be the program guidelines for the 2010-2011 fiscal year, which will implement the policy direction from the Government. The industry will also be asked for their views on the on-going consultation process beyond the implementation year that will continue to adapt and refine the CMF program."
The Canadian Media Fund, a combination of the existing Canadian Television Fund and the Canadian New Media Fund, will launch on April 1, 2010.
