Yak Communications to become an independent ISP

TORONTO – As it strives to become an independent ISP, Yak Communications has moved its residential high speed Internet customers onto its own “business grade, top level hierarchical Internet network”, marking a complete departure from its previous resale model.

Owned by Globalive Communications, the telco offers high speed Internet, home phone, long distance packages, calling cards and cellular long distance to residential consumers across Canada.

“Moving away from the resale model will allow Yak to ensure even higher levels of service to our customers,” said Nisha Amin, Globalive’s director of marketing, in the press release. “It will also enable Yak to provide even more value added features through Yak High Speed Internet in the coming months, while still offering extremely competitive pricing.”

Yak’s customers can now access “multiple top tier Internet providers” directly from Yak’s Internet backbone, though local access will still be provided over existing telephone lines, the release continued.
