APTN readies 10th anniversary celebrations

WINNIPEG – As part of its plans to celebrate its 10th anniversary in September, Aboriginal network APTN will air a 90-minute special called Milestones, Memories and Moving Forward.

Hosted by actor Lorne Cardinal of Corner Gas fame, the show will chronicle the journey of where APTN began and how the network continues to grow and evolve.

“This day truly is a milestone in Canadian television,” said network CEO Jean LaRose, in the press release. “It is a day to celebrate the achievements and quality programming this network has become recognized for. This historic moment wouldn’t be possible without the support of our dedicated viewers from all over the country who feel a connection to not only the significance of what APTN has accomplished, but also to the importance of its role in providing a voice for Aboriginal Peoples.”

The first national Aboriginal television network in the world officially hit the airwaves on September 1st 1999, originally called Television Northern Canada (TVNC).  Currently available in approximately 10 million homes in Canada, APTN broadcasts across the country through three regional feeds and an HD channel in English, French and 15 different Aboriginal languages.
