Review Competition Act revisions separately, ACA asks

TORONTO – The Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA) is asking that the proposed amendments to the Competition Act be removed from federal budget legislation for further study.

The amendments, included as part of Bill C-10 now before Parliament, would impose “dramatic” increases on penalties for misleading advertising, among other measures, "without the opportunity for due scrutiny" by a House of Commons Standing Committee, the press release said.

“We don’t want to delay the stimulus package that is central to the budget Bill, but neither do we wish to see the Competition Act amendments pushed through without proper scrutiny and debate. Separating the Bill is the best solution,” said ACA president and CEO Ron Lund, in the release.

The ACA is a national association representing client marketers, and is dedicated to helping members maximize the value of their investments in all forms of marketing communication.
