Thoora launches real time news discovery service to the public

LAS VEGAS – Rogers’ real time web service Thoora marked its official launch at the BlogWorld Expo.

It’s service had previously been in private beta since it was unveiled at TechCrunch50 last month, and by Cartt.ca.

The free service uses filtering, clustering and ranking technology to find the stories generating the biggest reaction within the blogosphere, Twitter and more than 4,500 traditional media sources. Thoora’s news aggregation and story ranking algorithm is completely automated and relies relying on implicit actions rather than human curation to determine the stories attracting the most buzz.

"We have been excited to see such an overwhelmingly positive reaction during our private beta phase," said Thoora CEO Michael Lee, in the announcement. "The strong community support for our platform confirms our core belief that the distribution and consumption of the news is changing, and people are looking for better ways to capture the interesting and diverse voices and content on the social Web and traditional media — not just what a few editors think is important."
