CRTC grants four digital TV licences to Ultimate Indie Productions

OTTAWA – The CRTC on Wednesday approved two Category 2 pay TV licences and two Category 2 specialty TV service licences for Ultimate Indie Productions.

The first national pay TV channel, called Everything Weddings, will offer programming related to weddings and marriage, including planning, fashion, traditions, wedding receptions, entertainment and honeymoon destinations as well as practical advice.

The second national pay TV channel is called Everything Expecting and will focus on pregnancy, maternity and infant care.

Both pay TV channels must limit the amount of drama and comedies they broadcast to no more than 10% of all programming aired during the broadcast year, and it must be related to weddings or pregnancy, maternity and infant care for each respective channel.

The CRTC denied Ultimate Indie Productions’ request to be allowed to air infomercials, promotional and corporate videos because these types of programming are not allowed under the Pay Television Regulations.

Ultimate Indie Productions was also granted a licence for the Category 2 specialty TV channel, Grown Up Living, which will target Canadians over 45 years of age with programming related to investment, health, entertainment, travel and general lifestyle.

It was also granted a licence for a high-definition version of the channel, called Grown Up Living HD.
