ATLANTA – Quebec cableco Videotron is upgrading and expanding its VOD service with Concurrent’s MediaHawk Back Office Software Suite (MHBOSS).
Videotron is testing the software this month and next, and plans to go live with the new system later in 2008. It is the first North American MHBOSS shipment for Concurrent.
“When we began plans to upgrade our VOD system, we realized we needed a more scalable back office based on open standards,” said Alain Boissonnault, principal director of development of video technologies at Videotron. “Concurrent’s new MHBOSS is highly scalable and supports any next–generation applications we may be considering for the future, such as time-shifted TV.”
Concurrent said MHBOSS enables operators to upgrade systems and deploy new services, such as time-shifted TV and nDVR, without service interruptions.
As more subscribers are added and on-demand utilization rises, the capacity of MHBOSS can be effortlessly increased by adding additional computing and storage modules, Concurrent added. Any and all replications of data and load balancing are automatic and can occur when the system is operating at full capacity. Content libraries can be expanded and user generated content can be added without limit.
“MHBOSS was designed to look beyond traditional on-demand technology to next generation applications and services,” said Concurrent president and CEO Gary Trimm. “We are pleased to partner with Videotron as we usher in a new era of on-demand products and services.”
