Bell to filter mobile content

MONTREAL – Bell Mobility said today it will make mobile internet access “safer” through a joint content filtering service, the company announced today.

Called ‘Parental Control’, the content access control service allows payment-responsible account holders to limit mobile-phone access to certain Internet sites that they deem inappropriate for their children. Guidelines can be preset to block objectionable content in real-time. The service is available nationally on most phones for $5 a month.

"We understand the Internet is an incredible source for entertainment, education and social networking, but also a challenge considering the large number of Internet sites featuring content that may be inappropriate for children to view," said Adel Bazerghi, senior vice-president of products for Bell Mobility, in the release.

"As use of the Internet on mobile phones grows, fuelled by the popularity of smartphones and the fast access speeds delivered by 3G networks, our clients have asked for tools to help them manage access. Bell Parental Control offers them content filtering capability on mobile phones for the first time in Canada."
