Canwest expands broadband lineup

TORONTO – Canwest will add a number of new shows to its online lineup with the launch of the new TV season next week.

Canadians will now have access to over 50 of the company’s programs online.

Shows on www.globaltv.com and www.eonline.com include House, Heroes, The Office, Deal Or No Deal and for the first time in Canada, daytime hits The Young And The Restless and Days Of Our Lives. New programs, including 90210 and Knight Rider, will also be shown on the sites.

Canwest’s specialty channels will also be streaming some of their most popular shows on www.showcase.ca, www.hgtv.ca, www.foodtv.ca, and www.slice.ca.

In addition to full episode streaming rights, Canwest has also bought a “robust broadband asset package from NBC Universal, inclusive of blogs, games, behind the scenes footage and specially produced webisodes,” says the press release.

“We understand that our viewers aren’t always able to watch their favourite shows at the designated time and our role as a broadcaster today is to offer hit TV in more places and at more times than just a traditional schedule,” said Barbara Williams, executive vice-president, content, Canwest Broadcasting, in the release.
