Bell adds online VM and text to land

TORONTO – Online voice mail and text to land line messaging was unveiled this morning by Bell Canada.

Online VM allows Bell clients to retrieve voice messages online as an audio file attachment from any computer in the world with an Internet connection. The text to land line service offered by Bell Mobility allows clients to send text messages to any land line phone.

“By combining three of our most sought-after services, including home phone, wireless and Internet, Bell is making it easier and more efficient for our clients to stay connected with family, friends and colleagues,” said Kevin Crull, president, residential services, in the press release.

Online VM is available starting at $3 per month and includes features such as listen, delete and download. Users can also send voice mail in the form of a WAV file to any email address automatically. Clients also get free access to voice mail over the phone anywhere in Canada, up to four separate mailboxes for family or roommates, a mailbox capacity of 50 messages, and new or skipped messages are saved for 45 days.

With text to land line, messages are converted into an automated voice message delivered to the recipient’s phone. The message can then be heard live or is sent to voicemail if the call is received by an answering machine or voicemail. A confirmation message is sent to the sender indicating whether the message was successfully delivered to a live person or a voicemail system.

If delivered to a person, the recipient will have the option to respond immediately by sending a voice message back to the original sender, who automatically receives a notification message. The service works with any land line in Canada or the U.S. Regular text messaging rates apply.
