Global’s Steele to get gold ribbon at CAB; 100-plus speakers set to go at annual confab

OTTAWA – The Canadian Association of Broadcasters said today that Global Edmonton news anchor Lynda Steele will be the 2007 recipient of the Gold Ribbon Award for Outstanding Community Service by an Individual Broadcaster.

Steele is passionately committed to community service, says the CAB, particularly in promoting literacy.
“While Lynda has a special fondness for events that promote literacy, she has thrown herself behind several causes. She has been at the forefront of efforts to raise awareness about domestic violence, fundraise for cancer research, and find affordable housing solutions for Edmonton’s less fortunate,” says the CAB release.

She is also the Honourary Chair of the annual “Stroll for Liver” – raising funds to support the Canadian Liver Foundation’s efforts to find a cure for various forms of liver disease that affect thousands of families every year.

“Lynda gives generously of her time and talent to raise money each year for sick children at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. She also takes part in “Tim Horton’s Camp Day” and “Cup of Compassion Day” at Second Cup to raise money for breast cancer research,” the release adds.

The Gold Ribbon Award for Outstanding Community Service will be presented to her at the CAB Convention’s Gold Ribbon Awards Breakfast on Tuesday, November 6th

With more than 100 guest speakers from Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia participating in 18 information sessions over two days, the CAB has pulled out all the stops for the 2007 Convention program.
