HALIFAX – Atlantic Canada’s incumbent telco Bell Aliant announced an overhaul of its digital TV lineup for its 11,000-plus customers this week.
“Customers have told us they want more packages to choose from and that is what our new program line-up provides,” said Claudine Langan, Aliant’s director of consumer marketing, in a release. “Customers will continue to get all the most popular channels in our Digital Advantage package. Then, customers can add to this package with 14 new theme packages. The new theme packages are organized around different genres of programming so we think customers will appreciate this additional choice.”
Theme packaging has been a popular sales tool for incumbent cable companies and satellite providers.
Today, a customer may be paying up to $55 per month for 60 channels from their local cable provider, says the Aliant release. “With the new line up from Aliant they can pay $29 per month for the first 12 months – $39 after that – for 70 TV channels and 98 radio and music stations, including choice from 14 themes and commercial free movies,” it reads.
In concert with this launch of new packages, Aliant is adding new channels to the line up including Gol TV, Wild TV, The Fight Network, Bloomberg and Bite TV, popular requests from our viewing customers.
Since 2000, Aliant says it has invested over $370 million to build and maintain the broadband network required to deliver high-speed Internet and enhanced services throughout Atlantic Canada. Combined with Aliant’s market support for Bell ExpressVu, Aliant can serve all of its customers with video.
(Ed note: Aliant has never made pubic its television customer tally and the 11,000-plus video customer figure comes from industry sources and reflects Aliant’s terrestrial digital television customers only.)
