Telecom Laureate Awards gala set for October 16 in Montreal


TORONTO – The 3rd Annual Telecom Laureate Awards 2007 gala dinner and Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will be held October 16 at Windsor Station in Montreal.

The 2007 laureates being inducted into Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame are: Michael Kedar (Icons of Business), Robert W. (Bob) Jones (Servants of the Public), C.R.O. Bob Munro (Advocates and Academics), Frederic Newton Gisborne (Inventors and Innovators) and the Communications Research Centre Canada (Special Recognition Award).

Also, the Career Service Award will go to Gilles Y. Delisle, a telecommunications engineer and educator who has devoted more than three decades to sharing his expertise with students in Quebec and eastern Ontario and the developing world. Delisle is currently vice-president of research at the Montreal-based International Institute of Telecommunications.

The Career Service Award, a new honour introduced in June 2007 and presented twice annually, is for individuals who have enjoyed distinguished careers within the Canadian telecommunications industry and have contributed to the growth or betterment of the telecommunications industry through exemplary work efforts and leadership in the region, province or locality within which their careers were spent.
