Quebec RCMP arrest more pirates

SAINT-GEORGES-DE-BEAUCE – RCMP officers of the Beauce-Amiante and Québec City detachments, with the assistance of an expert of Industry Canada, arrested two suspects in relation to the sale of satellite receivers, digital cards, illegal copies of video games and pirated software, in Thetford Mines on September 27, 2007.

The suspects, a man and a woman, were released. They could be summoned to appear in court in Thetford Mines at a later date to face charges under the Radiocommunication Act, Criminal Code and Copyright Act.

The police operation resulted in the seizure of 51 receivers, 1 computer screen, 118 digital cards, 185 illegal copies of video games, client lists and a significant amount of equipment used to produce these items. The seized pirated decoders could have been used to illegally intercept satellite television signals worth approximately $185,000 over five years.

The Beauce-Amiante Detachment federal officers are responsible for investigating specific offences to the Trade-marks Act, Copyright Act, Radiocommunication Act, Excise Act and Weights and Measures Act. Illegal drug importation and exportation also fall under the mandate of the RCMP.
