Cross to exit as Edge PD

TORONTO – One of the most famous names – and voices – in Canadian radio, Alan Cross, is taking his act to another wing of the Corus Entertainment media empire.

The 102.1 The Edge program director is taking on a new position in the company at the end of June, opening up a coveted PD spot in Toronto.

Cross will be joining the company’s interactive group, called Splice, in an as yet to be defined role. “Alan is a passionate devotee of all things interactive, an experienced and innovative program director, a prolific multimedia talent and arguably Corus radio’s premiere national radio personality as host of The Ongoing History of New Music. He’s also a dedicated techno-geek, so he should fit right in,” said an internal Corus memo announcing the shift from Splice general manager David Huszar

Splice is dedicated to the growth of Corus radio audiences and revenue through the extension of the company’s various radio brands across the country (Q107 in Toronto and Calgary, The Edge, CKNW in Vancouver, etc. etc.) into new media platforms. “The success our web sites have shown in the past several years is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the radio interactive team,” added Huszar’s memo.

“We all know that the current brand-extension strategy we are executing is only a piece of the puzzle of growing Corus’s online business. We need to continue to innovate in order to fully realize the radio division’s potential as an integrated broadcast and online company.”
