Three new commissioners named to CRTC


OTTAWA – Suzanne Lamarre, Steve Simpson and Louise Poirier have been appointed to five-year terms as new full-time CRTC commissioners.

Lamarre will represent the Quebec region, Simpson will represent the British Columbia and Yukon region, and Poirier is the new National Capital Region Commissioner.

Poirier begins her five-year term on August 11, while Lamarre starts at the CRTC on June 30.

Since 2006, Lamarre has been senior advisor to CBC/Radio-Canada in Montreal in the sector of national and international strategy, planning, and regulation. She has represented the CBC in front of national and international regulatory bodies.

Previously, she was acting director of regulatory affairs for the CBC’s French-language networks, and in 2007, she was a member of Canada’s delegation to the International Telecommunication Union’s World Radiocommunication Conference.

In 2001, Simpson became chair of Totally Hip Software, an authorized Apple developer developing authoring tools to bring audio and video multimedia content to the Internet. He was also president of the management consulting and public affairs company Identity Management Inc. He has held several positions in the broadcasting industry, including in management and as an on-air radio host.

Poirier was a city councillor for the city of Gatineau for numerous years. She also worked for 15 years in the area of communications, both in radio and television, and has managed Tele-Quebec’s regional office and was a member of its board.

As well, the federal government reappointed Leonard M. Katz as vice-chair of the CRTC for another four-year term.
