HALIFAX – Bell Aliant today announced Karen Sheriff has been appointed president and CEO as of Monday.
She is currently COO of the eastern Canada and rural Quebec and Ontario telco and will succeed Stephen Wetmore, who in July 2008 announced his intention to step down. Sheriff is a director of Bell Aliant and has served in that capacity, and as a director of its predecessor company, Aliant, since 2004.
"Karen’s extensive experience as a telecommunications executive and deep knowledge of Bell Aliant position her well to provide sound leadership to our organization," said Charles White, chair of the management resources and compensation committee and lead independent director for Bell Aliant.
Sheriff became president, small and medium business, Bell Canada in June 2003 and joined Bell Canada in May 1999 as senior vice-president of product management and development and later became chief marketing officer. Prior to this, she ran corporate marketing and branding at Ameritech Inc.
