Score launches iPhone app in Canada

TORONTO – ScoreMobile iPhone Edition is North America’s most popular iPhone sports web application, says the company, and it will now be available to Canadians.

With the official launch of the Apple iPhone 3G in Canada on Friday July 11, Canadian users will be able to access ScoreMobile iPhone Edition from anywhere cellular service is available. Volkswagen Canada has signed on as the official Canadian launch partner, the broadcaster announced.

Score Mobile iPhone Edition is a free web application developed by Score Media, owners of Canadian sports specialty service The Score, that can be accessed with an iPhone or iPod touch. Taking advantage of the unique touch screen interface, the application allows fans to get up-to-the-minute scores and odds along with standings, game previews and real-time box scores for MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, CFL and NCAA football and basketball.

"Since its launch in the United States last fall, Score Mobile iPhone Edition has developed a very strong following," said Benjamin Levy, executive vice president and co-COO, Score Media Inc. "We are extremely pleased that hardcore sports fans across Canada will finally be able to experience this must-have iPhone application."

No figures on the application’s usage were released by the company.

ScoreMobile iPhone Edition was the first iPhone-optimized web application to be launched by a mainstream sports media company in North America and according to Apple.com/webapps, it is the most popular sports web application for the device.

"We are always looking for new and innovative ways to bring our brand to the consumer," added Bruce Rosen, director of marketing and communications at Volkswagen. "The iPhone and The Score combine two passions shared by Volkswagen drivers: sports and intuitive technology."

And, from July 11 to August 15, fans will have the chance to win an Apple iPhone (including three years of voice, data and text messages) by registering at www.thescore.com/scoremobile.
