E&Y to award Ted Rogers

TORONTO – Accounting firm Ernst & Young will present its Ontario lifetime achievement award to Rogers Communications founder Ted Rogers this October.

"Ted Rogers drives those around him to succeed. He is passionate about business and his energy drives and inspires those around him to overcome challenges and push for progress," said Dan Cornacchia, national and Ontario director of the Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards program, in a press release. "With inspiring forethought and vision, Rogers represents the true essence of entrepreneurism. He recognizes opportunities others miss and uses them to build ideas into realities."

With the purchase of Toronto FM radio station CHFI in 1960, Rogers began what would soon become one of Canada’s largest communications empires. His early career focus on FM radio quickly expanded to encompass broadcasting, cable television and telecommunications. Rogers pioneered numerous communications ventures, transforming Rogers Communications into an industry leader.

His entrepreneurial ventures extend to philanthropy. Most recently with a $15 million donation to Ryerson University in 2007, Rogers established more than 50 new scholarships and financed further business management research.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards honour individuals whose lasting impact on Canadian and international business nurtures the next generation of Canadian entrepreneurial talent. This year, the program proudly celebrates a milestone anniversary – 15 years of honouring the country’s most impressive entrepreneurs from all areas of business.

Rogers will be presented with the award and honoured at the Ernst & Young Ontario Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards Banquet in Toronto on October 16, 2008. The national program sponsors are Global Television Network, National Post, La Presse and RDI.
