MONTREAL - Toshiba Corporation has joined the G.729 consortium that already includes France Telecom, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation Universite de Sherbrooke. The G.729 is an audio data compression algorithm developed by Sipro Lab Telecom for voice that compresses voice audio in chunks of 10 milliseconds. G.729 is mostly used in VoIP applications for its low bandwidth requirement.
