CTV orders new comedy — Dan for Mayor

TORONTO – Corner Gas co-star Fred Ewanuick has been cast in the new scripted half-hour comedy pilot, called Dan for Mayor, CTV announced Wednesday.

Ewanuick (Corner Gas, Robson Arms) plays Dan, a 30-something bartender who lives and works in the fictional city of Wessex, Ontario. He has had the same friends since grade school, his most prized possession is a vintage Ms. Pac-Man game, and his last serious relationship was with a girl who is now engaged to someone else. Suddenly, he finds himself in the running for mayor.

Dan for Mayor is being created by Mark Farrell (Corner Gas, This Hour Has 22 Minutes), Paul Mather (Corner Gas, Rick Mercer Report) and Kevin White (Corner Gas, This Hour Has 22 Minutes).

The pilot for Dan for Mayor is slated to begin production outside Toronto on October 20.

“Dan is an easily likable character that resonates with anyone who has suddenly found themselves on a brand new career path,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc.

Dan for Mayor is produced by Sad Glasses and QVF Inc. in association with CTV and The Comedy Network. Farrell, Mather and White are the creators and executive producers. Sue Murdoch (Doomstown) is the producer and Ron Murphy (Billable Hours, Heartland, ReGenesis) is the director.

It is the second scripted comedy commissioned recently by CTV. Last week, CTV announced it had commissioned the pilot, Hiccups, a project by Corner Gas creator Brent Butt.
