WINNIPEG – John A. MacDonald, president of MTS Allstream’s Enterprise Solutions division, will retire after six years with the company, it was announced Wednesday.
This will conclude a 30-year career as a senior executive in the Canadian telecommunications industry.
The Enterprise Solutions division, which operates under the Allstream brand nationally, competes in the national business and wholesale telecommunications markets.
After beginning his career as an engineer at the New Brunswick telephone company NB Tel, MacDonald progressed up the management ranks to become president. Among his other senior executive positions were chief technology officer and chief operating officer of Bell Canada, and president and chief operating officer of AT&T Canada, a predecessor company to Allstream, which merged with Manitoba Telecom Services in 2004.
"John has been a valued and important contributor – a real leader – in our success in recent years in building momentum and renewed competitiveness into our national enterprise business," said Pierre Blouin, MTS Allstream CEO, in a release. "I will miss his words of wisdom and his passion for the business. On behalf of the company and the board of directors, I want to thank John for his contributions and wish him continued success and happiness as he retires from MTS Allstream."
"It has been a career highlight to have the opportunity to help with the evolution and growth of MTS Allstream into a leading national telecommunications provider," said MacDonald, in the release. "I’ve enjoyed working with our customers and our partners in bringing innovative solutions to the Canadian market under the Allstream brand. But in deciding to retire, what I will miss most are the people of this company. They’re a very fine group, and I am confident that I leave the division in good hands. I wish them well in driving the company forward."
A formal search for a replacement is underway.
