Viner to be interim head of Canwest Broadcasting

WINNIPEG – Peter Viner has been named the interim president of Canwest’s broadcasting division, once Kathy Dore steps down next month.

Viner will have responsibility for Canwest’s conventional television operations and 24 specialty channels in Canada until a full time replacement has been named, the company press release said.

The former Canwest executive retired in July 2007, though has remained involved in the company in a consulting role. He also sits on the board of directors of CWMedia, the legal entity which holds the former Alliance Atlantis assets.

"This appointment reflects a continuation of our strategy to transform our business with specific focus on improving the conventional television model," said Canwest president and CEO Leonard Asper in the statement.

"Peter has a proven track record of success for over 25 years with Canwest, and is already working with the broadcast leadership group to ensure we keep our momentum."
