TORONTO – Rogers Wireless Inc. is the first North American carrier to launch Yahoo! oneSearch, a mobile search service, it was announced Tuesday. The application is being offered to Rogers’ Wireless and Fido customers across Canada.
The product release is an expansion of a multi-year mobile, broadband and PC search agreement reached late last year between Rogers Communications and Yahoo!.
“Yahoo!’s revolutionary mobile search service provides our customers easy and instant access to the latest and greatest Rogers content and all the relevant results and instant answers to the information they care about anytime and anywhere,” said Rogers Wireless SVP and Chief Marketing Officer John Boynton.
Yahoo! oneSearch delivers results directly to the first screen of a mobile device to remove the need for consumers to navigate through a sea of links to PC Web sites to find the information they want. It provides access to news, financial information, weather conditions, Flickr photos, Web images, along with Web and Mobile sites.
Yahoo! oneSearch also enables Rogers customers to easily shop for ring tunes, games, hot graphics and other content found in the search results.
“With their deployment of Yahoo! oneSearch, Rogers has led the way in mobile search in Canada and has again delivered upon its goal to meet consumer demand for compelling mobile services. In just over a year, we have signed 29 Yahoo! oneSearch partnerships with carriers across the globe, including Rogers, covering more than 600 million consumers under contract,” said Bruce Stewart, vice-president and general manager of Connected Life Americas, Yahoo! Inc.
