OTTAWA – Canada’s most recognized and accomplished local news anchors will gather in the nation’s capital tomorrow as CTV and A-Channel officially celebrate the accomplishments of local news. This will be the first gathering of its kind, with 35 of Canada’s top television journalists being acknowledged in the House of Commons and who will later gather at a CTV and A-Channel celebration in downtown Ottawa.
Participating in the celebration are CTV Ottawa’s Max Keeping, CTV Atlantic’s Steve Murphy, A-Channel Vancouver Island’s Hudson Mack and CTV’s National News Chief Anchor and Senior Editor Lloyd Robertson. All of the anchors will participate in a tour of Parliament Hill and attend the House of Commons during Question Period. They will then join CTV’s official celebration of local news with hundreds of special guests and dignitaries at the Metropolitain Brassierie restaurant in downtown Ottawa.
“Our anchors represent the efforts of hundreds of journalists working each and every day to tell Canadians the stories of their local communities,” says Robert Hurst, president of CTV News and Current Affairs. “It’s wonderful to have all of them together on what will be a truly special day.”
“Every day we hear from our viewers about how important local news is in their hometown communities,” said Richard Gray, Head of News, A-Channels. “Its also appropriately fitting, given our long histories of local service, to work with CTV on what will be the first ever gathering of this kind in Canada.”
This week, CTV and A-Channel’s evening newscasts will continue to feature a series of special local reports that spotlight how local news has impacted their communities over the years. You can view dozens of special reports from the local stations across Canada online at www.ctv.ca.
