XM Canada hits 270,000 subs


TORONTO – Canadian Satellite Radio Holdings announced today has picked up a few more subscribers to its XM Canada satellite radio service as well as exclusive rights beginning July 1 to broadcast NHL hockey.

The company announced Monday it has achieved 270,000 subscribers as of the end of its third quarter ended May 31st, up from about 237,500 at the end of the second quarter Feb. 28th.

“We continue to focus our efforts on building our subscriber base through diverse channels,’ said John Bitove, XM Canada’s chairman and chief executive officer, in a statement. “XM Canada has built an extensive network of automotive partners that are continually increasing their XM radio installations and we are extending into the retail sector with new and innovative products.

For the past two years, XM Satellite Radio held equal NHL broadcast rights with Sirius Satellite Radio.

The subscriber numbers reported today are based on unaudited results.
