Archives, DJs, live concert part of 1050 CHUM’s 50th anniversary celebrations


TORONTO – CHUM Ltd. is turning to its archives and former DJs to celebrate the 50th year in operation of its 1050 CHUM radio station.

The radio station is hosting The 1050 CHUM All-Star DJ Week from May 21 to May 26, featuring six hours of the radio stations’ broadcasts from the 50s, 60s and 70s, and past DJs, such as Roger Ashby, Scott Carpenter, Mike Cooper, Bob Laine, Duff Roman, Jim Van Horne and Bob Magee, Samantha Houston and Robbie Evans (Bob, Sam and Robbie).

There will also be a free anniversary concert at Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square that will include performances by Little Ceasar and the Consuls, Robbie Lane and the Disciples, and Gordon Lightfoot.

Allan Waters launched 1050 CHUM, Canada’s first 24-hour top 40 radio station, on May 27, 1957.
