TORONTO – The Greater Toronto Airport Authority said Monday it will launch a new all-business news radio station from its 1280 AM frequency.
The new CFBN will replace CFYZ, which functioned as a travel information station for Canada’s largest airport.
The GTAA has hired Newsroom Productions to provide programming, sales representation and technical services for the station, which will launch April 9th.
Additionally, www.cfbnnews.com will stream programming on line.
“This is a good move for the GTAA and further enhances the services being offered to travellers and the Toronto community” said Steve Shaw, vice-president, corporate affairs for the GTAA. “A large portion of Toronto Pearson’s traffic is made up of business travellers and keeping them up to date on business news and current events is important in today’s environment."
In addition, the agreement with Newsroom Productions Inc, is a good business decision for the GTAA as it is leveraging Newsroom Productions position in the broadcasting industry and will help to enhance overall airport revenue, added Shaw.
CFBN will broadcast out of studios located in Terminal 1 which will be managed by Newsroom Productions through its division CBN (Canada’s Business Network), a Toronto based radio syndication company that currently produces content for radio stations across the country including “The Fred Ketchen Report” and “Weekends with Sheila Copps”.
No local, daily on-air hosts were announced.
“Business is a missing format in Canadian radio, which is surprising because we really have everything else," said Bryan Woodruff, president and general manager of Newsroom Productions. "Our stock market is strong and reaching new highs on a regular basis; there’s never been a better time to launch this type of station.
"CFBN will be more than just numbers and stock quotes, we will offer a business news perspective on everything – from political and social issues to world and international events," added Woodruff.
The station will air analysis from chief market analyst Fred Ketchen and international programming from brands like CNBC and The Wall Street Journal. The station will also air market reports and programming from India and China.
Airport traffic reports and advisories along with travel programming will also play a key role in CFBN’s programming, said the press release.
