TORONTO – If all goes as hoped, Corus Entertainment will have a new channel aimed at young women come this fall.
And the branding, Cosmo TV, could scarcely be better. The application for the new category two digital specialty channel went before the Commission in December and a decision is expected in the spring.
The new channel will be jointly owned by Corus and American publisher Hearst Corporation, which owns the popular women’s magazine. Corus will hold the majority of the channel, which will target women aged 18 to 34, Susan Ross, Corus’ EVP and general manager lifestyle, drama and movies, told Cartt.ca.
While Cosmo TV exists in Spain and Latin America so far, "We’ll be the first English-language market for Cosmo Television," said Ross.
"It will be a complement to W and is a great opportunity to leverage our insights into women, our research, and also to leverage our sales expertise," she added.
