Carroll replaces Woloshyn at ‘RB

TORONTO – On Friday, Newstalk 1010 CFRB’s morning host Ted Woloshyn announced his retirement from morning radio.

He made the surprise announcement during the final few minutes of his show that day. Woloshyn had the morning slot at Standard Radio’s AM flagship for 10 years. “Thanks to Alan and Gary Slaight for the chance to be part of something so special," said Woloshyn in a release. "I’ve really enjoyed working with the staff here and I will miss them a lot. I’m also looking forward to some different challenges and what the future holds.”

Woloshyn started his career in 1974 at CHIC in Brampton. He moved on to work in Peterborough, Montreal, Hamilton, and finally, Toronto. Ted’s television credits include: host of CBC’s It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll, CBLT’s Off The Wol, CBC’s Midday and CBLT News as well as Star TV’s Canada’s Walk of Fame Induction Ceremonies.

Bill Carroll, the station’s mid-morning man (8:30 to noon) will move into the AM drive slot from 6 to 10 a.m. on January 8.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to take over what I think is the biggest job in Canadian radio,” said Carroll in a release. “Only two people have done that job in the last 60 years at CFRB (the other was Wally Crouter) and they are both tough acts to follow. What I’m even more excited about is the chance to convert more people to talk radio. I think there are a lot of disenchanted music listeners my age out there who have no idea how exciting talk radio can be. It’ll be my job to show them.”

Carroll began his broadcasting career in 1980 in Northern Ontario and has since worked as a reporter and news anchor in radio and TV. He joined CFRB in 1999.

“It’s a big task to take over the morning reins of CFRB,” added Standard Radio Toronto’s general manager Pat Holiday. “It takes a very talented broadcaster to handle it. I’m thrilled that we have exactly that perfect person to pick up those reins with Bill Carroll. Bill’s been a star on our station for years and I have no doubt that he’ll shine even brighter in mornings than even now. It’s going to be a really fun exciting ride for our listeners with Bill.”

“It’s always sad to have someone who’s a big part of your life every morning leave you," added Holiday. “In Ted’s case doubly tough because he’s such a great fun guy. The past decade of Ted’s morning shows on CFRB have been wonderful and I have no doubt that the next big thing he throws himself into will be more of the same.”
