Telus and Dell team up

VANCOUVER – Mobile broadband capabilities on select Dell Latitude and XPS notebooks and Precision mobile workstations will enable the units to access the Internet over the Telus wireless high speed (EVDO) service thanks to an exclusive agreement announced today by the two companies.

Telus’ Wireless High Speed service enables the user to access the Internet and their corporate or home networks on the go, with the right gear. Telus Wireless High Speed service provides typical download speeds of approximately 400 to 700 kilobits per second, and maximum possible speeds of more than 2 megabits per second.

"This offering greatly expands our customers’ access to their critical data networks to anywhere they can make a cellular phone call. The impact to the individual’s productivity is significant," said Greg Davis, president of Dell Canada.

The agreement will allow those who purchase Dell Latitude D420, D620 and D820, and XPS M1210 notebooks and the Dell Precision M65 mobile workstation to access the Telus EVDO network via integrated modems, opening the door for services such as streaming video and multimedia applications on the go.

Wireless high speed is available in Canada’s major urban centres and across many smaller regions, with coverage to 21 areas across the country. Where Wireless High Speed is not available, clients can also access wireless Internet using Telus’ 1X network which currently offers digital coverage to more than 94% of the Canadian population, said the company. Rates for the wireless service vary.
