SaskTel hits 50,000 TV customer mark

REGINA – After adding high definition this month, these are heady times for SaskTel’s Max Entertainment Service, which announced its 50,000th customer on Monday.

“On behalf of everyone at SaskTel, I want to thank our customers for their tremendous support and loyalty,” SaskTel president and CEO Robert Watson said in a statement. “I also want to thank our employees for achieving this major milestone in our history. Max represents the future of SaskTel as a competitive full service communications company. We’ll continue to improve and refine Max by adding the new services and capabilities our customers want.”

SaskTel launched Max Entertainment Services in 2002, one of North America’s first internet protocol TV (IPTV) services, says the company. At launch, Max combined television, high speed internet access and the ability to surf the web on the TV. Within a year, more than 10,000 customers had signed up. In 2003, SaskTel launched Max Front Row, its video on demand service.

On September 19, 2006, SaskTel announced that it would introduce pay per view and Max Local On Demand community programming by the end of the year.
