Rogers expands VIP program to OMNI

TORONTO – The VIP program continues to grow at Rogers.

Having launched such a program years ago on its cable side (where video and Internet customers got breaks on Rogers magazines and wireless phones), and more recently on its Jack FM radio station in Toronto, Rogers has now extended such a program to its broadcast TV outlets.

On Monday, September 4th with the launch of its new fall season, Rogers OMNI Television will introduce OMNI VIP, "the first-ever rewards/loyalty program for conventional television viewers," says the press release. "While some credit card companies, retailers and radio stations have similar programs, OMNI is the first over-the-air television broadcaster to offer such rewards – with no fees of any kind – to its viewers, simply for watching."

Through mention on-air and online, viewers will be encouraged to become OMNI VIPs and reap the exclusive benefits of membership via www.omnitv.ca. To collect their reward, OMNI VIPs must first earn points by watching any of the stations for the special word of the day, and then correctly enter this word on the web site to receive a set amount of points.

Points can be banked and then traded in for items from OMNI. VIP members can play every day and choose rewards ranging from gift certificates and movie passes to larger offerings like home furnishings and professional services.

“We pride ourselves on maintaining a high level of interactivity with our viewers and have repeatedly heard first-hand just how frustrating traditional ‘watch and call-in’ contests can be,” says Malcolm Dunlop, vice-president of programming and marketing for Rogers Media: Television. “The new OMNI VIP program will not only virtually eliminate that type of contest, but also reward viewers for their loyalty, enhance our audience numbers and drive traffic to our web site. Our on-air clients will also reach more viewers and receive added value for their buy."

The more viewers play (by watching OMNI.1 or .2 for the word-of-the-day) the more points they can earn towards collecting prizes – "and the more advertisers will be exposed to viewers," says the release.

When a current advertiser provides a service or product to the OMNI VIP Prize Vault, they will be receive on-air mention, web presence and a link to their site as well as mentions in the newly created VIP newsletter.

The contest will run on all OMNI regional broadcast stations, including British Columbia (Victoria, Vancouver, and Fraser Valley) and Manitoba (Winnipeg), where they are religious broadcasters, and Ontario (Ottawa-Gatineau, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area), where the OMNI’s are multicultural broadcasters.
