TORONTO – CHUM International will look to sell nine new titles to this year’s MIPCOM, the world’s biggest TV sales market.
MIPCOM will be held October 9 to 13 in Cannes (www.mipcom.com)
Included in the company’s slate are fashion, music, celebrity and lifestyle series and specials, plus a compelling new documentary on the lives of transgender women in the U.S. men’s prison system, says the press release.

Cruel and Unusual is an unflinching look at the lives of transgender women in men’s prisons in the USA. This provocative feature-length documentary by Janet Baus, Dan Hunt and Reid Williams challenges our most basic notions of gender and justice. Imagine a lifetime of anguish over something as fundamental as your gender. And then imagine struggling with that in prison, completely isolated, with no support, living in constant fear of rape and violence. The women featured overcome humiliation, denial of medical treatment, solitary confinement and rape but never lose sight of their ultimate goal of fully becoming women. Shot over three years in high-definition video, and scored by the Aisler Set, Cruel and Unusual braids together prison interviews, landscape portraits and verité footage into a haunting film about an invisible segment of our society.
