TORONTO – Anyone looking for an insiders guide to feature filmmaking in Canada can now just point and click.

Women in Film and Television – Toronto, along with the Directors Guild of Canada – Ontario, have launched www.canadianfilmmaker.com, "a first-ever resource for Canadian filmmakers and a unique, one-stop online guide," says the press release.

The site will officially launch at WIFT-T’s 2006 Toronto International Film Festival Reception on Sunday, September 10 at the Park Hyatt Toronto.

Canadianfilmmaker.com was developed with the Ontario Trillium Foundation and a host of industry and government partners. It clearly explains the business of feature filmmaking in Canada – from development and financing to distribution and marketing – with practical tips and real-life stories from some of the industry’s leading experts.

“For the first time, Canadian filmmakers will have access to key information and advice all from one central source,” said Sue Sheridan, WIFT-T interim executive director. “The content on the site will be timely and relevant, with the inclusion of unique perspectives and opportunities for women and culturally diverse filmmakers."

“WIFT-T and DGC Ontario have been working in partnership for a long time to bring this project to fruition,” said Ron Haney, CEO & executive director, DGC – Ontario. “Canadianfilmmaker.com offers the unique resource of an online knowledge bank for filmmakers… This site is going to give domestic filmmakers an immense advantage in the struggle to get projects developed, funded and produced.”

The idea for canadianfilmmaker.com was conceived by Wendy Ord, a writer, producer and director who has worked in the Canadian film industry for 25 years. After completing her first feature film Black Swan, Ord wanted to take the mystery out of filmmaking by assisting filmmakers with answers to many production, financing and distribution questions, says the press release.

“When I made my first feature film, I spent many nights awake and feeling sickeningly alone in my lack of knowledge as I tried to fill out budgets, applications, and decipher a distribution contract,” said Ord.
