OTTAWA – Twenty Ottawa area fundraisers, including a two-person A-Channel crew, are in Iceland raising money for diabetes research.
A-Channel morning host Karen Soloman has taken her show on the road along with A-Channel camera operator Ryan Lee, to be part of Team Diabetes, a group of 20 local fundraisers who make up the Iceland Team participating in either a 10 km half-marathon or 42 km full-marathon on the North Atlantic island nation situated between Norway and Greenland.
Each member raised a minimum of $6,000 to be eligible for the trip – translating into more than $100,000 raised locally for diabetes research and programs. The Ottawa contingent will be joining more than 180 Team Diabetes members from across Canada in Iceland.
“On behalf of the Canadian Diabetes Association, we wish to thank our Team Diabetes partners including A-Channel for their support,” said Melanie Estable-Porter, Team Diabetes Specialist. “This is an amazing achievement – our Canadian Team has raised more than $1 million for the cause – and for that we are forever grateful.”
Viewers can follow A-Channel‘s Lee on his quest to complete his first full-marathon on A-Channel News at 6 and A-Channel Morning. Soloman will be providing daily reports on the team’s progress.
Photos and commentary from the four-day trip will be posted online at www.Achannel.ca.
