MTV gets Stupid

TORONTO – Delivering a message that smoking a less than intelligent choice for your health, MTV and the Ontario Ministry of Health unveiled a 50-foot banner on the east side of the Masonic Temple, the home of MTV at Yonge and Davenport on Wednesday.

The banner drop (pictured below) is a part of the Ministry’s Stupid.ca youth targeted campaign to spread awareness about anti-smoking. The stunt was a live re-enactment of the recent Stupid.ca television campaign that shows youth activists taking control of the media and delivering messages about the dangers of smoking.

Supporting the Stupid.ca campaign is Canada’s hardcore band Silverstein who were the featured performance on MTV Live, MTV’s flagship show.

"We’re stoked to support Stupid.ca and encourage teens not to smoke," says Silverstein lead singer, Shane Told. "Kids see a lot of guys in bands smoking, they see their idols smoking, and that’s just not right. They need to know that smoking is a serious issue and that it kills people. We’re happy to get on MTV and tell kids to stay away from smoking, and even more importantly, encourage them to get involved in spreading the word."
