MONTREAL – A 20-person layer of management at TVA Group was eliminated today.
The headline on the press release was that Denis Rozon has been hired as vice-president and CFO of TVA Group, replacing Paul Buron. However, the rest of the release showed the move is just part of a serious upheaval in the management of the publishing and TV broadcasting division of Quebecor Media.
Rozon had been working as vice-president and general manager of radiolibre.ca, an online music company owned by Astral Media. Prior to that, he was VP finance and administration for Astral Radio and his appointment is part of a general reorganization of Groupe TVA’s management team.
In addition to Buron, who had been TVA’s CFO since 2001, three other vice-presidents are departing: Gaetane Wagner, VP human resources; Luc Sauvageau, VP operations; and Serge Bellerose, VP development.
The vice-president, development position will be eliminated, said the company. TVA will name a new VP HR and VP operations within the next few weeks.
In all, TVA CEO Pierre Dion eliminated an whole management tier consisting of 20 positions.
"The current upheaval in the television industry, which is directly impacting the company’s financial results, forces us to review our operating methods," said Dion. "We believe that eliminating a management tier will speed up the decision-making process and improve the efficiency of the entire organization. Created 45 years ago, TVA needed to modernize and overhaul its management methods, which were impeding the changes we need to make in response to the technological revolution and the new market environment."
